The worlds of flavors and the fragrance overlap. Consumers show similar tastes between the two, so taste trends influence candles and scent trends, and vice versa. Shown in example:

Pumpkins, and pumpkin spices have a  flavor that heralds the arrival of fall, when lattes and pumpkin flavored products are available. The scent of Pumpkin Spice and all of its pumpkin relatives similarly signal the change of seasons with a veritable cornucopia of candles, air fresheners and toiletries.

How perfumers walk the fine line between natural and synthetic

“There just is not enough arable land to grow certain things,” explains Kari Arienti, founder of and perfumer at AromaKnowledge. Arienti is a veteran of the perfume industry who now works independently to develop fragrances for clients and train new perfumers. She also creates her own fragrances.
